Rockets Into Peace
Packing and Shipping Unique and Important Art from Around the Globe
It is not everyday that a customer walks into the store wanting to ship an item that scares you. Awhile back a gentleman walked into our Santa Barbara store with, what looked like a small rocket under his arm. As he approached the counter it was easier to see that at one point the item was indeed a rocket, but not anymore. Modifications had been made to this hunk of steel and now it was something very different. It was a beautiful piece of art.
According to Operation Lifeshield, a non-profit supported by this amazing artwork, "nearly one million residents of Israel are within striking range of rockets from Gaza" at any point in time. They have a mere 15 seconds to find cover when the sirens blare announcing an impending attack.
Over the past 8 years "over 12,000 Kassam rockets have been fired into southern Israel." 12,000! That is insane. The artist, Yaron Bob, wanted to do something to help. He decided to make roses from the debris. You can read Yaron's story here http://www.rocketsintoroses.com/artist.html.
It was a difficult moment holding a rocket in my hands, a rocket that had been held by terrorists intent on killing innocent lives, a rocket that may have killed children or parents, a rocket that was now a beautiful sculpture with roses growing from its belly.

I am glad we had the opportunity to ship this piece. We learned a lot in the process. If you would like to see more of Yaron's roses you can find them at www.rocketsintoroses.com.
