Packing and Crating Scooters and Motorcycles Too!
This cool little scooter came into our shop last week needing to be crated and shipped out of town. Crating and shipping motorcycles and scooters is not complicated, but there are certain details that must be addressed. Pack and Post is experienced in handling all types of vehicles and watercraft. We have packed and shipped motorcycles, jet skis, Vespas, mini bikes, four wheelers, go carts and ATVs.
First of all, unless you are going to label the shipment HAZMAT and ship according to the Hazardous Materials standards, the oil and gas must be removed. There are large fines for shipping hazardous materials without the proper labeling and you can be held liable for any damage caused by leaking fuel.
Second, under most circumstances you don’t want to roll your small vehicles, watercraft or ATVs directly onto a truck. Some carriers will take your shipment this way, but if there is damage and there are no packing materials or protection, insurance will not cover it. The best way to transport these types of items is to build a crate or custom pallet and strap the item to the base.
And last, many vehicle transportation companies are not experts in customer service. Check the online reviews of any company you think about using before agreeing to use their services. The last thing you want is your motorcycle stuck on the other side of the country three weeks after the estimated delivery date and a shipper who won’t answer the phone or give you a straight answer.
