Some of the most delicate items we ship at Pack and Post are china. It surprises a lot of customers to learn that packing and shipping china requires extra time and care to ensure that each piece arrives safely, even if they are not being insured. Keep reading to find out the packing requirements for china.
Chandeliers are one of the more difficult items to ship, because they cannot simply be placed in a box filled with paper. In many cases (especially for particularly fragile ones with objects that dangle) they need to be suspended, or at the very least tissue wrapped. Chandeliers also often need to be placed in fairly large sized boxes (even ones that are smaller) simply because tissue wrapping, bubble wrapping, and any additional necessary packing will increase the volume of the item. Before you pack and ship a chandelier, we encourage you to let us take a look first, if only to get an idea of what packing will involve. And we can also provide estimates for shipping costs as well, even if the chandelier needs to be crated and sent via freight service.
Did you know that boxes of all sizes have weight limits for shipping? By this we mean that for every size box there is a maximum weight it can hold that should not be exceeded; doing so may result in damage to item or the box itself, in addition to surcharges that get added to the shipping cost. Be careful when packing a box with particularly heavy or dense items, such as clothing, books, and machine parts.
One thing that sometimes surprises our first time customers is that not every box is "shippable". By "shippable" we mean not rated for shipping; some boxes, such as the moving boxes you get from Home Depot or Uhaul, while great for moving, are not great for shipping. These types of boxes are too flimsy to ship in and can be easily torn or crushed. However, there is no need to worry! Pack and Post carries a large variety of boxes in an assortment of sizes that are specifically designed to withstand the long journey of shipping.
Many customers are surprised to learn that there's more to packing a fragile item then simply wrapping it in a lot of bubble wrap and filling the box with newspaper, especially if they also want to insure it. Of course, Pack and Post always recommends letting us handle it; we are a professional packing service and not everyone has the time or means to pack items themselves. However, if you choose to pack fragile items yourself be sure to take a look at these helpful tips to ensure that your package arrives at its destination intact.
